5 Tips That Can Help You Locate Quality Used Fitness Equipment

!±8± 5 Tips That Can Help You Locate Quality Used Fitness Equipment

There are many online classified sites that people sell used fitness equipment on. A few that top the list are Craigslist.org, Backpage.com. You can also find wholesale items, discount merchandise and used items on Ebay.com.

Another great place to look is at garage sales. You will find most listed in classified in the local newspaper, and also signs on street corner with individual sales, and even whole additions that are having a sale. Of course, when the weather is bad this will not do you much good.

One of my all time favorites is to attend an estate auction, plus there are many local auction houses that have merchandise weekly, every other week, and monthly. If you have not been to an auction, you really should go sometime, as you will find many types of merchandise for a much cheaper price than you will find elsewhere.

Another idea is moving sales. Sometimes they will be advertised in the local paper, and other times you will hear about them by word of mouth or you may just stumble upon a sign someone has displayed who is having a moving sale. Most people don't want to take stuff they do not use or want anymore.

The last idea is just to be observant when visiting friends and family. I have seen several pieces of exercise equipment that someone has been using it to hang stuff on. Offer them a deal to take it off their hands and you may be taking the item home with you.

Elliptical Trainer Maintenance - 5 Keys To Trouble-Free Ownership

!±8± Elliptical Trainer Maintenance - 5 Keys To Trouble-Free Ownership

If you are lucky enough to own an elliptical trainer then you know the benefits it brings you in both fitness and hopefully enjoyment. I'm assuming that your elliptical trainer workouts are something you look forward to.

However, with elliptical trainer ownership there comes the responsibility of using it in a safe manner and keeping up with its maintenance. This article will take a look at what's involved with proper elliptical trainer maintenance.

Below is a list of the key points of elliptical trainer maintenance:

1. Start from a solid foundation -- a reliable elliptical trainer starts from when you first assemble it. Regardless whether you do the job yourself or you contract to have the assembly done for you, make sure that the job gets done right.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions to the letter and make sure that everything fits together properly and that there is no left over parts or hardware. Sometimes components may not fit properly. If it appears that there is a problem with the parts, then contact the manufacturer for replacement parts. Do not proceed until everything fits together as it should and your elliptical functions without problems.

2. Grease is your friend -- most elliptical trainers come supplied with a small tube of grease and instructions where to apply it. Don't be stingy with the grease! Apply it liberally. If you run out then don't be afraid to make a trip to your local hardware store to pick up more.

Grease will break down over time so it may become necessary to reapply it. Sometimes you can get by with spraying some WD40 to squeaky joints on the arm handles and foot rails, but it may be necessary to unbolt these parts and reapply some grease to the attachment bolts.

3. A little protection goes a long way -- spend the little extra to get a rubber floor mat to place under your elliptical trainer. This will both protect the flooring or carpet underneath the elliptical as well as keep dust from the floor from getting into the drive mechanism of your elliptical trainer.

Elliptical trainer covers are about as rare as hen's teeth, but they are great for keeping moisture and dust off your elliptical. They also deter small children from playing on the elliptical trainer and possibly injuring themselves.

A workable substitute for an elliptical trainer cover is an outdoor grill cover. Just make sure that its dimensions will adequately cover your elliptical trainer.

4. Be alert to signs of trouble -- If you notice strange noises like squeaks and groans from your elliptical trainer or it feels wobbly or otherwise unstable, then investigate immediately.

5. Know when to DIY and when to call in the pros -- many problems that may arise
with your elliptical trainer you can probably remedy yourself. Nuts and screws should be periodically checked and tightened if necessary. You can also apply lubrication to squeaky joints. You can also replace worn or snapped bolts yourself. Just be sure to order them from the manufacturer. This is especially true if your elliptical trainer is still under warranty. Always check with the manufacturer before doing any repairs yourself in order to protect your warranty.

Some repairs will require a factory-authorized technician. The manufacturer's customer support department will make this determination when you call for help.

As you can see, the maintenance for an elliptical trainer is somewhere between owning a car and a toaster. It doesn't require oil changes every 3000 miles and periodic tire rotation, but it needs a little more attention than emptying out the breadcrumbs once a year.

The single most important thing you can do as an elliptical trainer owner is make certain that you educate yourself before making a purchase. Then armed with this knowledge, purchase a high-quality, well-designed elliptical trainer that will provide you with many years of trouble-free use.

Why Do I Get Numb Feet on My Elliptical Trainer?

!±8± Why Do I Get Numb Feet on My Elliptical Trainer?

You've got yourself a nice little exercise routine that you are happy with. You use an elliptical trainer, which burns up the calories and keeps you in shape. The only problem is that when you have been on the machine for 20-30 minutes, you start getting numb feet. What can you do?

First of all, you'll be relieved to hear that you are not alone. There are plenty of other people that have had this problem, but most do not mention it. It feels like your feet have 'gone to sleep' or that you have the sensation of 'pins and needles'. You maybe familiar with this if you have been standing in one place for a long time or you go to sleep on your arm and your arm 'goes dead'.

The cause is the same as in these cases. The odd sensations come from the nerves in that area of the body. This is in response to a lack of blood circulation. Essentially the body is trying to tell you to get more blood to the area. It seems funny that you should have a lack of circulation when you are exercising but this can happen if you feet are kept in the same position on the machine. It's a bit like standing still in one place for a long time.

There are a number of things that you can do to combat numb feet on your elliptical. First try to vary your foot position as you use the machine. You could use a 'heel to toe' action that varies the pressure on different parts of the foot. You can also split your workout up into sessions of going forwards and in reverse. This also has the advantage of using different muscles.

Some people have found some relief by loosening their shoelaces or removing their trainers altogether and just exercising in their socks. Different machines can also be of benefit. Ellipticals that have articulating footpads allow a more natural movement of the foot that can help blood flow. Some people have also found that using a machine with an incline ramp also seems to help.

By using these tips you should be able to get back to enjoying your elliptical trainer workout without the inconvenience of numb feet.
